Non-Regulated: authorisation needed? Home

What is Non-Regulated’s regulatory status?

Short answer

Non-Regulated is a trading name of Introvisory Ltd. Introvisory Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (firm reference number 948814). That authorisation is limited to corporate finance business. The perimeter information, calls and introductions described on this site are not services we provide under it.

We give general information about the UK regulatory perimeter and introduce clients to solicitors and specialists. We do not give legal advice, advise on or arrange regulated products, approve financial promotions or handle client money.

What do we do?

  • We give general information about the UK regulatory perimeter, on this website and on calls.
  • We help businesses understand which questions apply to them: whether what they do may need authorisation, and whether the way they market it may be a financial promotion.
  • We introduce clients to solicitors who can give a written legal opinion on their position.
  • We introduce clients who are inside the perimeter to specialists who help with direct authorisation, appointed representative arrangements or section 21 approval of promotions.

What do we not do?

  • We do not give legal advice. Whether a business is inside or outside the perimeter is a matter for a solicitor’s written opinion, not for us.
  • We do not advise on, arrange or sell regulated financial products.
  • We do not approve financial promotions.
  • We do not hold or handle client money.

How does our FCA authorisation relate to this service?

Section 19 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 prohibits carrying on a regulated activity in the UK unless a person is authorised or exempt. Section 21 restricts the communication of financial promotions in the course of business unless they are made or approved by an authorised person or an exemption applies.

Introvisory Ltd holds FCA authorisation for corporate finance business. The service described on this website is different, and we have set up the way we work with both sections in mind. Our service is general information and introductions to solicitors and specialists. We do not advise on or arrange regulated products, we do not approve promotions and we do not handle client money. Our own marketing is about our introduction service, not about investments or regulated financial products.

Because the perimeter service is not provided under our FCA authorisation, protections that come with regulated services, such as the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, may not cover it. If you have a complaint about our service, our complaints page explains how we deal with it.

How are we paid?

Your first call with us is not charged. Our income comes from introduction fees paid by the solicitors and specialists we introduce clients to. We tell clients this openly, and the solicitors we work with must make sure you know about any referral fee arrangement under their own professional rules. You are under no obligation to instruct anyone we introduce you to. How it works

How can you check a firm?

You can check whether any firm is authorised, and what it has permission to do, on the FCA register. The register also shows appointed representatives and their principals, and firms authorised or registered under the payments and e-money regimes. You can look up Introvisory Ltd there by its firm reference number, 948814, to see its authorisation and the limits on it. If a firm tells you it is authorised, it is sensible to check its entry and permissions yourself.
